- Switchboard ELDs can be used offline, but the driver must regularly connect to a WiFi hotspot to save log data; a cellular data plan is recommended.
Drivers log hours of service on a certified ELD while fleet managers track vehicles, trailers and equipment by GPS with smart geofences, generate per-state or per-province IFTA mileage reports, dispatch drivers, scan and send documents and schedule maintenance reminders. The ELD is registered with the FMCSA for the U.S. and third-party certified for Canada, plugs into 9-pin, 6-pin or OBDII ports, and can record logs offline, with the driver reconnecting regularly to save them. Optional modules add dashcam accident footage and weigh station bypass at 884 North American sites without a transponder.
