Select files and folders, a whole drive or partition, or the free space of a drive and Secure Eraser overwrites the data with a deletion method such as random-value overwrite, US DoD 5220.22-M E or ECE, the German BSI-VSITR standard or the Gutmann method, which can overwrite up to 35 times, so that specialized recovery software cannot restore it. It also clears browsing traces, the recycle bin, registry and temporary system files, and records deletions in reports, with deletion certificates on request. On SSDs it detects the drive automatically, disables multiple overwriting and runs a TRIM command; the running system partition cannot be wiped directly and is handled by a Windows factory reset followed by free-space deletion. Secure Eraser runs on Windows only.
