Overview

Devices, PLCs and enterprise systems publish and subscribe through the HiveMQ MQTT broker, which supports MQTT 3.1.1 and 5.0, clustering, persistent messaging and TLS-based security. HiveMQ Edge translates protocols such as Modbus, OPC-UA and Siemens into MQTT, buffers data on disk during connectivity loss and bridges to enterprise brokers; commercial Edge features require a license. Extensions stream data to Kafka, Amazon Kinesis, Google Pub/Sub, databases and data lakes. The platform runs self-managed or as the fully managed HiveMQ Cloud.

Features

Connectivity Management

Connect industrial protocols such as Modbus, OPC-UA and Siemens to MQTT through Edge protocol adapters

Bridge Edge to enterprise MQTT brokers over a bidirectional MQTT bridge

What you need
  • Southbound traffic is a commercial Edge feature that requires a license
More details & conditions: Connectivity Management

Send southbound traffic through the OPC-UA adapter or a custom adapter

Data Management

Validate, enforce and transform data in motion with the Data Policy Engine

Apply custom data models and schema definitions at the edge

What you need
  • Data Policy Engine and offline buffering are commercial Edge features that require a license
More details & conditions: Data Management

Buffer messages on disk during connectivity loss and publish them once online

Configuration Management

Configure protocol adapters and MQTT bridges in the HiveMQ Edge admin console

Configure and control Edge through a REST API with username/password and bearer token authentication

More details & conditions: Configuration Management

Deploy Edge with official Docker images, locally, remotely or in Kubernetes

Event Logs

Review events in the Event Logs section of the HiveMQ Edge admin console

Configure an access log for MQTT clients and an audit log for Control Center actions

More details & conditions: Event Logs

Access the broker event log on HiveMQ Cloud Enterprise

Real-Time Monitoring

Display real-time telemetry in the HiveMQ Edge admin console

Show connected adapters, bridges and message destinations on the Edge Workspace canvas

More details & conditions: Real-Time Monitoring

Inspect clients with Control Center drill-down views on HiveMQ Cloud

Data Connectors

Stream MQTT data bidirectionally to Apache Kafka and Amazon Kinesis

Ingest MQTT data into PostgreSQL, MySQL, MariaDB, Microsoft SQL Server, MongoDB, CockroachDB, TimescaleDB and Snowflake

What you need
  • On fully managed HiveMQ Cloud, Starter includes Kafka and Amazon Kinesis; the other listed integrations require Enterprise
More details & conditions: Data Connectors

Integrate with data lakes on Amazon S3 and Azure Blob and with Google Pub/Sub

Bridge multiple MQTT brokers
